Hello, I am just a blue collar (HVAC skilled building trades) dude trying to survive in a crazy world. I am clearly convinced I should have been born about
100 yrs. ago. I have been fly-fishing for 5 yrs, but have fished since 7yrs. old, I grew up in upstate N.Y. which has some fine water, and have fished for
almost all species of fish, well almost. One of my favorites was going to Canada for muskie and northern, (super fish species), but have found a new found
love/passion for trout on a fly, nymph, or streamer, or shotgun if taking the Denny Crane approach, (just kidding), I have a family member who lives in Jackson
Hole, that is my primary fly fishing destination each year. Mainly the past 3 yrs. have been a fall retreat, for the reason of low or no tourists, great
weather ( 60's one day and 6" of snow the next), low water flows on the snake, and just simply fuel for my soul, and aggressive cutthroat's
trout.I love fishing small waters, but usually that means summertime and the crowds.August of '05 I fished almost all of the waters in a book by Cris Hunt
titled Stream Dreams.( super reading thanks Chris, and your approach was right on ) My intent this years trip is to make it out of Jackson and fish Rock Creek
and Clarke's Fork of the Yellowstone. Question to forum, does the Rock ever shutdown when the seasonal turnover arrives ? My intent is to be there after
the first wk. of Oct. from the way things look there now everything is holding up well, but I really feel I jinx alot of events in life, which is why I will
out of the Chicago area for the month of Oct. When the Cubs blow it and chock and break hearts, and give heartattacks,
I will not be around to be a burden of the jinx's. What is the pattern and approch for Oct. on the
Rock ? I understand nobody can predict weather patterns,( including the talking head making 6 figures) or how things will be. thanks for any in-fro. Trip
dates, arrive in the Hole Sept. 26 depart Nov. 2, lot of time, but still to much water.

Hey flygod! I just spent 8 days on Rock Creek a couple weeks ago; for Rock Creek, there was a lot of traffic (think it had to do with that damn Fly Fisherman
mag article!), but there was still plenty of room. I've been fishing Rock Creek consistantly for the past 9 years in all seasons and October is usually
great. The weather can be pretty spotty, but if you've got the right clothing (layered fleece w/ rain/snow gear), you'll do just fine! Most of your
time should be spent working streamers for the spawning browns, although you may get lucky w/ some BWO hatches and October caddis. For streamers, tie plenty
of Buggers in olive or black--cone heads do well, especially w/ some Krystal Flash in the tail. Also, sculpin patterns in tan that go from lighter to darker
from the tail to the head have also attracted attention. One other pattern that is a local favorite (see Doug in the mercantile) is the Wonder Bug.
You've got 45 miles of absolutely fantastic river to fish and you should have most of it to yourself! Just remember to buy some flies and other stuff in
the mercantile to support Doug and get his best info on the current hot stretches. Also, I'd recommend a stay at the mercantile hotel as it's part of
the whole experience (and has satellite TV and kitchenette rooms). Have fun and tight lines! <'(((-<
